Before you sign
Twelve questions worth putting to any dental AI vendor, us included. Take this list to our competitors as well — that is what it is for.
How long do you keep my radiographs?
Our answer: zero seconds after the response is returned. Ask for the number in writing, and ask where it is written.
Are my images used to train your models?
Our answer: no, and we train no models at all. A vendor that does should say so plainly, and should say whether opting out is possible.
In which country is my patient data processed?
Our answer: in the country where the platform you selected operates. We state it on each platform page.
Who are your sub-processors?
Our answer: the platform you select, and our hosting provider. Ask every vendor for the full list, not a category.
What happens to my data if I leave?
Our answer: nothing, because nothing was kept. Ask others for the export format and the deletion timeline.
Is there a minimum term?
Our answer: no term and no notice period. A long lock-in usually compensates for something.
What exactly am I billed on?
Our answer: one analysis is one radiograph sent to one platform. Ask what a “credit” or a “seat” means in practice, and what happens above the included volume.
Who holds the regulatory clearance for the algorithm?
Our answer: the vendor of each platform holds it for its own product. We hold none and claim none. Be wary of any intermediary who claims otherwise.
Does the tool diagnose, or does it assist?
Our answer: these are detection and decision-support tools. The clinical reading stays with the practitioner. A vendor blurring that line is telling you something about its regulatory position.
Can I audit the claims you have just made?
Our answer: yes, on the architecture and the code paths handling images. Ask what a vendor will actually show you.
Will you sign a data processing agreement?
Our answer: ours is published in full before you talk to us. Ask why, if a vendor's is only available after signature.
What are your named references?
Our answer: we are a new product and we have none to show yet. We would rather say that than invent a case study.
This list is deliberately not flattering to us on every point. A questionnaire that only a single vendor can pass is a sales document, not a questionnaire.
